About MyMzansi

Purpose

South Africa is at a pivotal moment in its digital transformation journey, with an opportunity to introduce a coordinated, delivery-focused approach to using technology to improve service delivery, drive economic growth and foster an inclusive society. This roadmap sets out steps to deliver on the change wanted by people in South Africa. It embraces new technologies, new approaches and a culture of innovation. It is a living document that will adapt to changing needs, opportunities and limitations.

Mission

MyMzansi’s mission is to simplify and improve how residents, businesses, and government interact by using shared technology, modern design, and collaborative delivery models.

Vision

To deliver a safe and inclusive future by changing how government services are designed and accessed.

What is Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)?

DPI refers to foundational technology building blocks — such as identity, data exchange, payments, and trusted digital channels — that enable secure, inclusive, and scalable government services. MyMzansi uses a DPI approach inspired by global best practices in countries like India, Brazil, and Estonia.

Partners and Governance

The roadmap outlines a whole-of-government approach to digital transformation. It is a project under Operation Vulindlela led by the Presidency and coordinated with the Department of Communications and Digital Technology (DCDT), National Treasury (NT). Government has established an inter-ministerial committee (IMC) and an inter-departmental working group (IDWG). The programme is supported by partners across government, industry, and civil society.
